A contract is expected to be awarded before year end for the rehabilitation of the John Compton Dam if all goes well, Senior Water and Sewerage Company INC (WASCO) official, Ali Anthony has disclosed.

Anthony explained that advertisements for qualification were placed, respondents were shortlisted and a report presented to the Central Tenders Board (CTB) and Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), which is funding the project with financial assistance from the European Investment Bank and the Inter American Development Bank (IDB).

He said upon receipt of the bids, an evaluation exercise was undertaken, with the results being submitted to the CDB and the CTB before negotiations commenced. Anthony disclosed that the previous tender process reached the negotiation stage but the bidder was unwilling to negotiate meaningfully.

He said the tender documents were revised and advertised but instead of a pre-qualification process, a post-qualification process was undertaken. This process he said, will shorten the procurement time as once the bidder does not comply, the bid will be rejected.

The request for proposals for the John Compton Dam rehabilitation project has been advertised and proposals are expected to be received by September 23. The John Compton Dam rehabilitation project is essentially a dredging and disposal project, including catchment rehabilitation to reduce on the impact of landslides into the reservoir.
