Two female students of the SALCC were allegedly robbed at gunpoint on Monday near the school’s gate. The incident follows a string of other thefts targeting schools and students. Given the incidents, safety and security at schools is now a major national concern. The Minister of National Security has previously announced that a new School Crime Watch initiative will soon be launched. At the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Principal Olivia Saunders, last week announced that CCTV cameras will be introduced on campus and other stringent methods to deal with issues jeopardizing student safety on campus. The National Students council says it is imperative that the government and education officials focus urgent attention on school security.
