Cultural activist, Gandolf St Clair, spoke out to the media on Wednesday, while items were being removed from the Walcott House for storage.
St Clair expressed disbelief that that the St Lucia National Trust did not receive funding to keep the project going. He says it is indicative of a lack of appreciation and interest for St Lucia’s cultural heritage, by St Lucians in general. He says in light of the death of Derek Walcott there could not be a more insulting move. He further levelled criticism at the Arts fraternity for not standing together and standing up to condemn the forced closure of Walcott House. He says artists are divided and that they are all fighting each other for crumbs. He says it is only with a sense of togetherness that artists will have any hope of demanding and receiving the respect that they deserve.
