At a St Lucia Labour Party hosted a public meeting in Anse La Raye on Sunday, Laborie MP, Alva Baptiste, decried what he described as “brutal and naked attacks on the Church”. The SLP MP claims that the current administration is trying to vilify the Catholic Church for speaking on the DSH Project.
Last week, Archbishop Robert Rivas, released a statement expressing concern about the impact which the project would have on people in the south. The statement also highlighted concerns about the re structuring of NICE and the government’s non renewal of NICE contracts. It should be noted that the Prime Minister has given no public response to the church. The Office of the Prime Minister indicated that they will pursue amicable dialogue with the church. Former Soufriere MP, Harold Dalsan, argued that the Catholic Church has always been vocal on issues.
