Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, has made it clear that the Jazz Festival will no longer be held. According to Chastanet, there is no justifying the expenditure of 14 million dollars on the Jazz Festival. He says the country is getting no returns in exchange for that amount of spending. He further explains that the problem was compounded after BET stopped giving the Jazz Festival international TV exposure. To replace the St Lucia Jazz Festival the Prime Minister has announced the implementation of a Summer Festival. Every two weeks, from May to November, there will be a number of events and concerts as part of the new Summer Festival. He also announced an expansion of carnival to three weeks of activities and greater financial investment in both Carnival and Jounen Kweyol. According to the Prime Minister there is already great interest about the planned Summer Festival which will feature Jazz, Reggae, Soca themed concerts.
