Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, has dismissed the opposition’s criticisms surrounding CIP. Speaking on the opposition’s walkout in Parliament, he said when the time is right they will get a chance to debate the amendments to the CIP legislation. However, he insists that he does not know how he is supposed to debate a motion that is based on things that are non-factual. He argues that the wording of the motion was “uncomfortable” for him, given that certain claims put forward as fact. These include claims that the amendment to lower the value of the qualifying investment for citizenship has jeopardized the country’s reputation and undermined it’s security. He characterized the actions of the opposition as economic terrorism and treason, also accusing them of using scare tactics.
