The Minister of National Security has promised action in response to criticism from the family and neighbors of a 12 year old alleged rape victim. The 12 year old was allegedly raped by an older man who is no stranger to her family. Relatives and residents say they are puzzled as to why the alleged rapist has not yet been arrested by police. However Minister for National Security, Hermangild Francis, explains that before the police can make an arrest a report must be made. He says it was just over the weekend that the police were able to speak the child’s mother and convince her to give a statement. Francis says now that there is a statement there may be inconsistencies in the statement. He says ultimately this would hurt any potential case, if a premature arrest is made.  The Minister spoke of the need for thorough investigation and consultation with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which can then indicate that there is sufficient evidence so that an arrest can them be made.
