Gros Islet has brought home the National Debate Championship two consecutive years and as a means of continuing the community’s reign in the National Competition, the Gros Islet Youth Development Council will be hosting a District Debate Competition.
The Gros Islet Youth Development Council in collaboration with Digicel will be hosting a debate competition, which will meet the objectives of youth in Gros Islet to experience a professional debate, strengthen their public speaking ability, be able to analyze evidence and construct a persuasive argument.
The competition will allow for eight (8) young individuals between the ages 13 to 16 years to compete against each other in pairs debating topics which reflect a social issue in Saint Lucia. These young people would have to learnt how to express their views in a professional manner; strengthen their speech ability, and develop tactical research skills.
The Grand Prize for the competition is $500.00 cash.
