Members of Parliament, gave recognition to those with disabilities within society and the contributions that they make, in observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. For the first time a sign language interpretator was in Parliament to ensure that people living with hearing impairment or hearing loss were catered for. Along with other distinguished members of the House, the Minister with responsibility for Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment, Hon Lenard Montoute, stated that he awaits a day when people with disabilities will be present and included fully in regards to serving the nation. The Minister said that from the very top, speaking of the Prime Minister, the government is mindful, conscious and willing to make provisions to facilitate citizens with disabilities. He gave his commitment to advocate for policies which will give true meaning to the pronouncements made by government.
