Flea market vendors will be relocated to their previous Jeremie Street location after complaints about a move to have them set up at the lower end of the John Compton Highway. Castries Mayor Peterson Francis had announced the closure of the section of the John Compton Highway every Saturday. The decision to scrap that plan and send flea market vendors back to the old location on Jeremie Street, came following a meeting on Tuesday. The Mayor received much criticism for taking the decision in the first place. Taxi drivers and members of the public complained about the move. They were also outraged about the Mayor not consulting affected parties. Press and Communications Manager in the Office of the Mayor, Jason Hullingseed, says the Mayor “found it in his heart” to change the decision given the impact and challenges on some of the interested parties.
