The interim chairman of the local cannabis movement, Andre Decaires, says the results of a recent cannabis poll in Saint Lucia, indicate a shift in attitudes. He says although marijuana has been prevalent in the Caribbean for the last 40 years, the region seems to be the last to make a move on decriminalizing marijuana. He has called on those who he calls, colonist leaders, to do the brave thing. He wants marijuana consumption to be treated as a public health issue in the same way as cigarettes – legal but with age restrictions and public education and sensitization on its varying strains and potency and health risks.
