On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5th, Sustainable Development Minister, Dr Gale Rigobert, called for people to be more aware of the state of the environment.
At the government and even at the household level, Dr Rigobert says, we must all take responsibility and feel empowered enough to take actions to safeguard the environment. A public awareness initiative is now being implemented through the Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project. The objective of this initiative is to build awareness about climate resilience and disaster risk reduction. Dr Rigobert has also appealed to people to get out with their family and friends and connect with nature by exploring the island’s nature trails; places such as the rain forest, the Pitons, the dive and snorkel sites of the Soufriere Marine Management Area and many more.
