February 4th is observed as World Cancer Day internationally. The Union International Contre Le Cancer (UICC) has chosen the theme “WE CAN, I CAN”. It is a call to individual action, collaboration and Partnership towards a unified effort in raising Cancer Awareness.
This year Faces of Cancer St. Lucia along with the Oncology Centre, Community Nursing and some corporate sponsors and Doctors, have joined forces, to host a Free Health fair for the public. At this event we will be offering free screening for breast, prostate and cervical cancers, as well as hypertensive and diabetic screening. The fair will take place on Saturday February 4th at the Grounds of the Oncology Center at Tapion from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
We are hoping for a huge turnout and are encouraging our woman to bring along their significant others to get screened also, as we seek to lessen the cancer burden on our island and raise cancer awareness in our communities.
Faces of Cancer St. Lucia is the leading cancer support group in St. Lucia focusing on raising awareness and bringing relief to cancer patients emotionally, spiritually and financially. According to the president of faces of Cancer St. Lucia Mrs. Dorothy Phillip “we have recognized the importance of early detection in saving lives and we will be working with other stakeholders to provide more, free screening in the Future.”
