The Saint Lucia Secondary Schools Reparations Lecture Series gets under way today Tuesday At the Vide Boutuielle School in Castries. The Reparations Lectures have been organized by the National Reparations Commitee ahead of the upcoming October 29th CARICOM Reparations Baton Relay and Youth Rally planned for the Derek Walcott Square to introduce the CARICOM Reparations message to the youth of Saint Lucia. The schools lecture series will introduce students and teachers to the basic elements of the CARICOM quest for Reparations from Britain and other European states for Slavery and Native Genocide. It will also seek to correct certain historical myths and explain why Saint Lucia and all other CARICOM member-states want young persons to take up the Reparations mantle. The NRC’s schools lecture series follows the launching in August of an earlier co-sponsored series launched by the NRC with and at the UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia at Morne Fortune. On Wednesday October 19, it will be the turn of the Beane Field Secondary School in Vieux Fort and the Soufriere Comprehensive School, with the Vieux Fort session starting at 9am and the Soufriere one at 11am. On Friday October 21, the lectures return to Castries at the St. Joseph’s Convent from 9am. On Monday October 24th, it will be the turn of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School with another 11am start. The lectures have been approved by the Ministry of Education.
