Mayor of Castries, Peterson Francis, has met with the three funeral homes on island – Crick’s, Lazarus and Rambally’s to problems associated with the administration of the Choc Cemetery. The city mayor says upon assuming office, it was brought to his attention that some individuals have been involved in collecting monies under the carpet and accommodating customers without the knowledge of the Council in some instances. He says these practices will be stopped. The Mayor has promised better coordination of burials, the appointment of a person to manage the facility, reductions on tombs and burials and minimizing workers’ overtime. Mayor Francis indicated that the meeting is the first of many to come and emphasized the need to not only improve the service provided at Choc Cemetery but to also make it more affordable for families.
