The Executive Director of the Saint Lucia Employers Federation, Joseph Alexander, is cautiously optimistic about the government’s plans to generate employment.

He has thrown his support behind the DSH project and other hotel projects announced by the government. Similar sentiments have been echoed by the National Workers Union in the past. Both organizations say with thousands of young people leaving school and searching unsuccessfully for jobs, it is absolutely crucial that there is more employment. However the DSH project in particular, has come under heavy criticism from concerned citizens. A recent protest march saw thousands come out in opposition to the project in its current form.
