Injured cub-scout, Nick Joseph, has arrived back home from Guyana with his mother. They were met at the airport by Saint Lucia’s Scout Commissioner, Robert Augustin.
Eight-year old Joseph and another scout, Darnell Ajani Matthew, were injured in an accident on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown on July 26, during the Caribbean Jamboree, which was being hosted in Guyana.
They were both hit by a vehicle. Darnell was treated and released and returned to St. Lucia. However, eight year old Nick was seriously injured and underwent intensive treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
While hospitalized he received a visit from President David Granger. Granger is the Patron of the Scout Association of Guyana.
The injured child is expected to be further cared for by physicians here. He is reported to be recovering well, talking and walking – although his step is said to be a little slower than usual.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet was reported to have been closely monitoring the developments and commended the Guyana Government for providing its full support in the wake of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle which hit the cub-scouts was jailed for ten months.
