The region’s strongest storm in almost a decade made landfall in Haiti as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 145 mph. Hurricane Matthew is ravaging Haiti with heavy rainfall and strong sustained winds. Many houses are expected to go down because of the poor housing infrastructure in a lot of the rural areas of Haiti. The strong winds will be extremely damaging and dangerous given that homes for the average person are made of mud and sticks or poorly constructed cinderblocks.
