The musical programmes at four schools on the island have been given a major boost. In a small ceremony held on Monday September 12, the Ave Maria, Gros Islet and Micoud Primary schools each received a full drum set, while the Gros Islet Secondary School received two new guitars for their music programme compliments of MAGNETICS USA. This is the company which supplies Massy Stores Mega with high quality electronics.
During the presentation Sancha Raggie of Massy Stores St. Lucia reinforced the company’s commitment to youth development and very worthy endeavors. She noted the importance of music not only as an enjoyable subject, but one that can enrich students’ lives and education overall. She disclosed that last month the Youth Ministry of the Fundamental Baptist Church, a small congregation located at Balata was given a drum set as part of the company’s corporate giving.
Thanking Massy Stores and Magnetics USA for their generosity, Curriculum Specialist at CAMDU, Mr. Jason Joseph said he was elated for the support provided to the schools and added, ‘they rely on the private sector for support and assured Massy Stores that the schools chosen as recipients all have a need and these gifts will go a long way in supporting and developing their individual music programmes.’
The partnership between Massy Stores and Magnetics USA to donate musical instruments to worthy causes began three years ago. Elvis Joseph, Purchasing Manager at Massy Stores Mega coordinates the donation plan with Magnetics USA. He was on hand to highlight the small range of musical instruments and accessories on offer at the store, which include key boards, microphones and speakers. He used the opportunity to encourage the students to make good use of the donation by developing their musical talents, playing hard and ensuring proper care of the equipment.
