The Daren Sammy Foundation, which officially launched in August this year, is well on its way to fulfill one of its major objectives – empowering the youth.
Sammy and his team began the first leg of the DSF School Tour at the Gros Islet Secondary School.
By stressing on the importance of setting goals, planning how to achieve them, and by using his own success as an example, Sammy hopes to change the attitude of the youth, about planning for their future. Sammy who was sacked as West Indies captain earlier this year, says the experience is proving to be a powerful life lesson that he is sharing with students. He says students are well aware of the events that played out, leading to his dismissal as captain. He says he told that students that being a champion means that you do not give up even when life tries to knock you down. He says there was thundering applause, and students seemed to truly internalize the message.
The DSF School Tour will make its next stop at the Monchy Combined School and the Gros Islet Primary School, and will then resume after Sammy returns from Bangladesh and Pakistan. Sammy sayus when he is not on island to continue the tour he looks forward to making his fans proud with next cricket ventures.
