Catherine Sealys of Raise Your Voice St Lucia is coming to the defence of the mother whose baby was found dead with a rope around her neck. Sealys says there has been a rush to judgement and unfair conclusions about the family situation. The mother of the deceased infant has denied rumours that she had anything to do with the child’s death. Accusations of negligence have been made and Sealys says the people who are making such judgements, have no clue about the dynamics of poverty. She says a single parent mother of 5 children has to hustle to make a living. Sealys says a quick grocery store run while her infant slept does not equate to murder. The mother, she insists, would understand her child’s sleeping pattern and be able to gage whether she would have time for a quick errand to the nearby shop. She has cautioned the police about making a quick arrest to appease the public. She argues that too often poor people get taken advantage of by the judicial system because they have no one to fight for them or defend them.
