Many businesses say after a hard year where public spending was frighteningly low, things are finally picking up for the Christmas season. The traditional last minute Christmas shopping is providing a boost to businesses.
How this year’s spending compares to previous years is not yet known but store owners say any increased consumer spending is very much welcomed. The private sector has had a rough couple of years with many businesses closing down or laying off staff to try to stay afloat financially. Meanwhile the National Consumers’ Association has cautioned consumers about irresponsible spending and over spending during the festive season. This could have a significant negative impact on people’s personal finances.
