18 officers have now joined the City Police Unit within the CCC. The official swearing for the group of city police officers took place today Monday at 10am. The decision to expand the city constabulary unit is as a direct result of rising crime in the city. The initiative was first announced by Castries city Mayor, Peterson Francis, as he signaled his concern about the current crime situation and how it affects not just the citizenry but also tourists who visit the city.

The 18 member City Police Unit will join 12 constabulary officers already employed within the Mayor’s office. These constables will patrol the city to ensure law and order is maintained. Commissioner of Police, Severin Monchery, has spoken of eth commitment of the police force to bring the situation under control and the need for partnerships to fight crime.
