The St Lucia Labor Party saw a very large turnout for its national protest against government policies. The protest was highlighted as one where citizens make a stand for the patrimony of St Lucia.
Speaker after speaker, encouraged St Lucians to stand up to the government and its policies, in particular, the DSH deal in its current form. The opposition has been on a steady campaign over the past months, to spark public outrage about the DSH Pearl of the Caribbean deal. It would seem that the message has been embraced by a substantial number of citizens, if the protest is any indication. In the wake of the successful protest, it is left to be seen whether the show of numbers in the streets will cause the government to alter its course with the DSH developer. The government has maintained that so far only one aspect of the project has been signed off on and that is the horse racing track aspect.
