A Category 1 Hurricane Earl made landfall just south of Belize City in the wee hours of this morning, bringing with it near 80 mile-per-hour winds with higher gusts and heavy rains.
But as it continues to move across central and northern Belize, the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said, it is losing some of its punch and it could be no more than a tropical depression by tomorrow.
By the time Earl reached Belize, its maximum sustained winds had reached 80 miles per hour.
Earl is actually forecast to weaken to a tropical storm later today and to a tropical depression by tomorrow morning.
Forecasters say after leaving Belize, Earl will move across northern Guatemala and the southern Yucatan Peninsula later today.
