Calypso writer and producer and popular MC, Ezi Hall, says one week away from the opening of the first tent and, there is no hype about carnival or calypso. He stated that in January carnival stakeholders met and discussed the need to have greater promotion of Carnival and calypso. Hall says that has not materialized and it is deeply concerning. While he is encouraged by the greater injection of funding into Carnival and Calypso, he maintains that the hype is simply non existence. Hall says while watching even the launch of the Carnival Queen Show there were RNB songs being played instead of Soca. He worries that there seems to be a separation of the Queen pageant from Carnival and Soca music. As it pertains to the Roots and Soul Festival, Hall says he hopes that the upcoming festival can compliment and not take away from the Carnival season.
