Antigua’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has cancelled plans to give investors permission to construct a gun assembling plant in that country.

Browne phoned in to a radio program to announce that he instructed the Attorney General and other Cabinet colleagues to scrap the deal. Browne had called the radio station earlier in the afternoon and confirmed that the plan was going ahead. But scores of residents also called the radio station to criticize the prime minister for agreeing to the gun factory. He phoned back to say that having heard from the people he felt the government ought not to proceed.
