A series of regional capacity-building consultations is being undertaken by the OECS Commission. The consultations will help facilitate free trade in the region by activating the OECS Customs Union. The sessions enable discussions on domestic, regional, and international trade in the new era for the seven OECS member states, including the removal of import formalities on goods traded within the Customs Union, and the harmonization of border and regulatory procedures for goods imported from outside the region. To date, the Commission has held consultations in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Montserrat, and St. Kitts and Nevis on the work undertaken to establish the Customs Union and the free circulation of goods. These steps advance the implementation process and augment the role of OECS Commissioners and national working groups in facilitating the operations of these regimes at the national level.
