Labour Minister, Stephenson King, asserts that in an attempt to undercut each other security firms are hiring people without requisite training. He says the norm now, is that any of the security personnel working in the security services sector in St Lucia are foreigners. This, he says, is part of a race to the bottom in the sector. He notes that Saint Lucia cannot treat the matter lightly and as such, he has initiated dialogue with the National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis on the issue. He highlights the need to regulate security companies and the entry of personnel into security firms so that individuals are not just taken off the streets and employed as security guards. His objective is to see security guards certified and go through a level of training equal to that of the police.
