The Traffic Department does not have any forms to facilitate the issuance of traffic tickets. The Acting Commissioner of Police, Milton Desir, confirmed that the Printery stopped printing the old tickets but has not yet printed the new forms. He cautioned the public not to have false confidence that they will get away with traffic violations, due to the police not having tickets. Not having tickets, he says, does not prevent the police from charging anyone for traffic offences. According to him, the police can take the registration number and other information from a driver who breaks the law and pursue the matter in court. He explains that if an individual is taken to court he or she pays more. A ticket is an opportunity for persons to pay without going to court and usually the charge on a ticket is less. Nevertheless he said one of the reasons for traffic tickets is to relieve officers of the need to be present in court.
