Since putting out a warning to non nationals working illegally in St Lucia, the Ministry of Labour says there has been a favourable response from employees and employers to assure that they are operating within the law.
The country`s Labour Laws mandate that overseas nationals desirous of employment in Saint Lucia, must first obtain a work permit or exemption where applicable. Those who contravene the law are liable to a fine not exceeding $5000.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both. The Minister appealed to employees and employers who are still in contravention of the law to visit the Labour Department to regularize their employment status urgently. Failure to comply will result in the case being passed on to the Immigration Department for full enforcement of the law.
