On Monday Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, was questioned about rumours that the Governor General has been asked to resign.

The revelation was made public on Friday night when former Soufriere MP Harold Dalsan addressed supporters at an SLP meeting in Palmiste. He alleged that the Governor General was asked to resign and declined to do so at this time. Dalsan also claimed that the Prime Minister’s father in law is the preferred candidate for the position of Governor General. The Prime Minister was reserved with his comments but did indicate that he has the greatest respect for Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy. He also noted that she has occupied her current post for the past nineteen years. He expressed the hope that she can complete her 20th year. However, he also stated that it is ‘very unusual’ to have a Governor General in position for such    Governor General to make whatever announcement she wants, adding that he has no pronouncements to make.
