The national workers union says workers at GTM have exercised their right to remove themselves from a hazardous working environment as provided for by Section 263 of Labor Act. This happened against the backdrop of a number of employees falling sick over the past week. The health and safety officer of the Labor Department has made a determination that the conditions are not favorable, following an inspection. The union, the company and Labor Department are due to meet tomorrow Friday. The company’s CEO will be flying in from Guyana next week, for further discussion.
