The Commissioner of Police made a special appeal to city police officers to not abuse their new power and authority. Commissioner Moncherry spoke at the official swearing in ceremony of the new city police unit. He cautioned the officers that their duty is to protect law abiding citizens and to respect their rights. Minister Fotuna Belrose, told the 23 new city officers that while government is aware that the officers on their own cannot fix the crime problem, they are nonetheless expected to be a part of the solution. National Security and Justice Minister, Hermangild Francis, called upon them to brave and innovative, as they hit the city streets. The recruits will participate in a three month training and appraisal program.  They will also attend the training academy of the police service as part of an ongoing capacity building program.
