Police have launched an operation aimed at keeping the city streets safe. An increased number of police officers have been deployed in the city as a preventative measure. The police force says the Christmas season is usually a period where there is increased criminal activity such as purse snatching, armed and unarmed robberies and assault. Therefore, the lawmen say they are taking the proactive approach to minimize such incidents during the Christmas and New Year season. The safety of visitors to the island is also a high priority during the busy period. As scores of St Lucians undertake their Christmas shopping, police say they can feel safer knowing that there is a heavy police presence in the city.
