Former Independent Senator Everistus Jn Marie says it one thing to reduce VAT to 12.5 percent – a move he applauds- but he says the devil is in the details. He says it’s highly improbable that government will lose an estimated 60 million dollars without finding some way to recover that money.
He says government must inform the public of whether or not it plans to extend the number of goods and services that attract VAT. If so he says the much promised relief to consumers would prove to be a gimmick.
