President of the Principal’s Association, Olivia Mathurin, says the education sector is facing a crisis with young former students working with accomplices to target schools for robbery.

Principals are calling for trained security officials in schools as opposed to the watchmen who are placed on duty at schools. Chief Education Officer, Marcus Edward, says the Ministry of Education is on board with those suggestions, recognizing that there is need trained security personnel.

Edward has responded to criticism that the Ministry of Education has not treated this matter with the urgency it requires.

St Mary’s College and the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School were the two most recent targets of bandits who robbed and vandalized the schools, even injuring a watchman at SMC.
