Attorney and Human Rights Advocate, Mary Francis, is calling for the release of a teenage mother and her newborn baby from the Bordelais Correctional Facility. Francis says the government through the Attorney General’s Department must address the situation and ensure that mother and child are released from jail. The attorney says whether or not she is in a special unit the fact is that their liberty has been taken away from them. She noted that the rights of the incarcerated teen’s mother have also been infringed upon because she has to travel to Bordelais to see her granddaughter. The grandmother is expressing great concern about the welfare of her newborn grandchild, alleging that the baby’s needs are not being met. She told media that the baby has developed a rash due to lack of diapers. Francis says in such a situation the teen was entitled to have legal representation.
