The Saint Lucia Labor Party has taken issue with the Prime Minister’s announcement that the Citizenship by Investment programme is under review. The party has called on Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, to be open and transparent and provide the public with all the proposed changes. The Labour Party says whilst being Leader of the UWP in opposition, Allen Chastanet, criticized the CIP all over the world, even when the IMF and other institutions praised the design of the program. The CIP has been operating for ten months and the Labour Party is of the view that it should be allowed to operate for some time before there is any restructuring or relaunch. Instead the Labor Party is calling on the Prime Minister to inform the public of how many people have been granted citizenship, what the monies are being used for, and what promoter is recommending changes to the existing legislation. The Labour Party says the public must be involved in the decision making process and claims that this is how the SLP operated when it was in office.
