Former Gros Islet MP Emma Hippolyte has confirmed that the vehicle that a gunman opened fire on at Pigeon Island belongs to her.Hippolyte says it was her nephew’s birthday and she gave him the vehicle so he could proceed on a night time outing with friends. In the wake of the incident, there is much speculation relating to the circumstances surrounding the incident. There are questions about whether the incident could have any political motive. Hippolyte says she is not living in fear for her personal safety despite the speculation. Neither will she rush to judgment on the motive behind the deadly shooting.

The former MP, and SLP Vice Chair, says she is deeply saddened that a young man lost his life as a result of the incident. She says violence among the youth continues to be of serious concern. She says there needs to be a holistic approach to curbing crime and violence.
