Transport Minister, Guy Joseph, concerned about the destruction of public signs, has called for stiffer penalties for the persons responsible.

Joseph, who is also responsible for Economic Development, Housing, Urban Renewal and Civil Aviation, says while there will be greater collaboration between his Ministry and the Ministry of Infrastructure  which is responsible for signage, there is need to introduce stiffer penalties for those who vandalize public signs.

He made reference to a number of mirrors that have been broken and vehicles have run into signs erected at roadsides.

He however acknowledged the need for major improvement in signage.

He also addressed the issue of roadside barricades on routes with sharp turns to prevent vehicles running off the road and in some cases, plunging into the sea.

Minister Joseph says that although finance is always an issue, there is need to look at a comprehensive programme of placing barriers along dangerous stretches of road.
