As an agency that promotes humanitarian diplomacy, the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government has again partnered with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to provide assistance to nationals.
Permanent Secretary, Mr. Donovan Williams said “addressing the needs and the challenges of the vulnerable and the marginalized requires a collective effort, a range of support and empowering interventions.”
The Taiwanese Embassy and by extension the people of Taiwan, Mr. Williams said, has consistently demonstrated its holistic support. This is evidenced by the scope of Taiwanese interventions in Saint Lucia and the establishing and deepening of relations between organizations within the two respective countries.
The Simply Help Foundation is a Los Angeles based charity established by a Taiwanese philanthropist. Last year, the foundation shipped a twenty foot (20’) container filled with supplies to Saint Lucia. The items were packaged by the Ministry’s staff and distributed through its welfare officers and Non-Governmental Organizations like the Salvation Army.
This year, the Ministry will begin the distribution of the contents of a forty foot (40’) container from the Simply Help Foundation at a handing over ceremony for Public Assistance Officers on Friday September 9, at the Chase Gardens Human Resource Development Centre.
His Excellency Ambassador Ray Mou and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will also participate in this activity.
