Taiwan’s Ambassador to Saint Lucia, Ray Mou , in a courtesy call on Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis pledged to work closely with Mayor Francis and City Councilors to improve relations between Taipei and Castries. He also spoke of plans for co-operation in security matters.
It was Mou’s first visit to the Castries City Council. The Taiwanese diplomat said that Taiwan would do its best to facilitate the friendship, especially interactions between young people of both capitals.
Mou disclosed that form his discussion with Mayor Francis, he learned that security in Castries is a priority.
The Ambassador said talks have been held with the government of Saint Lucia about how Taiwan can help to facilitate the security procedures for the police officers. As such, Taiwan will be seeking to set up CCTV cameras along the streets of the capital to help reduce crime. Taiwan is also seeking to promote co-operation between the police departments of the two countries. Mou explained that the Taiwan Police University has training programmes and hopes that Saint Lucia can take advantage of the courses.
Further, Ambassador Mou recalled that Taiwan had donated a number of bins to Saint Lucia in the past to help with keeping Castries clean. He said that perhaps there can be further initiatives from Taiwan to help improve the environment here.
