Residents of communities within Castries, including Marchand and Black Malley, say about 11pm on Sunday, 3 teams of SSU officers had to respond to a series of gun shots in the area. Police regard the inner city communities as known “crime hot spots” and on Sunday night residents say the area was indeed a hot spot for gun fire. The sound of a series of gunshots had residents startled and in fear, some scurried off in search of safety. Residents say they had never heard so many gunshots. Fortunately no one was hurt. Police believe gang members were “show boating” with gun fire – one trying to outdo the other. One resident told the press that reliable information was that there was a birthday party where there was a celebration with gun fire used like fireworks.
